The trail passes through several scenic streamside views as it approaches the tributary of Chattahoochee River, which is the Power's Branch. This section of the land is across the busy Roswell Road. Strictly only for hikers, the trail prohibits mountain bikes and motorized vehicles from entering the vicinity. The Big Trees trail is a fairly easy hike where three other major trails intersect along some sections of the path.

Right near the entrance, Big Trees Loop trail begins at a paved footpath that goes through a loop down to Powers Branch watershed. The second is the Powers Branch Trail which has definitely the offers the most excellent views among the three. This trail passes the stream at the Big Trees Preserve and ascends into the watershed before finally crossing the river. The third is the Backcountry Loop which is the longest compared to the other two. This one heads to an easy ascent to the Powers Branch watershed.

A few distance into the forest, the trailhead of Big Trees is found at the southern section of North Fulton Annex. At the concrete pavement, the trail descends to the right into Powers Branch Old Roswell Road. Head left towards the Big Trees Loop return trail and then head straight until the footpath joins Old Roswell Road. Move towards a marked intersection and then take left into Powers Branch Trail. The path then bears right to Beech Hollow Trail which leads down to the stream.

Switch back to Powers Branch Trail and proceed right towards the forested wetlands area. Head left from this overlook until you reach the wooden bridge at the right side. The trail then begins its gradual ascent nearby the stream as you pass by several wet foot crossings. As you approach the last bridge, you will find a huge boulder that was added to prevent soil erosion. Rising to an old roadbed on the left, move past the boulders where you will see a drill hole on the boulder.

After crossing the bridge, this marks the end of the Powers Branch Trail. You will then make an abrupt ascent to Spring Hollow Trail where at the end of it you shall head left at the Backcountry Trail. Expect a couple of switchbacks and then the path quickly descends to a bridge. Make a right after crossing it and head to a climb for Jackson Overlook Trail. Past Bull Sluice Railroad move forward to a platform across World Ford and return left on the Backcountry Trail. A few distance ahead a second bridge leads you back to the trailhead.
